Complete Car Cooling System Service near Omaha

Excessive heat building up in a car engine can warp the head cylinder, blow out the gaskets, and cause a lot of damage. To prevent this from happening to your Chevrolet, an engine cooling system is used to capture excess heat in the motor and move it to the radiator where it gets dispersed into the air around Plattsmouth, Nebraska. There are a number of things that can go wrong with a cooling system over time and it is important to get everything checked out every two years or so. Gregg Young Chevrolet of Plattsmouth is the place to go for an engine cooling system service inspection and repair.

An engine cooling system is made up of the following parts:

Coolant: Coolant, also called anti-freeze, is the fluid that circulates through the engine block to absorb heat and move it to the radiator. It is typically made by mixing distilled water with an alcohol base like ethylene glycol or propylene glycol and comes in various colors such as yellow, pink, green, orange, and red.

Coolant Reservoir: This is a plastic container inside the engine compartment and it has a hose attached to it and the radiator. The reservoir holds the coolant when it overflows due to the heat and pressure in the cooling system.

Water Pump: A water pump is used to circulate the coolant through the engine block, hoses, and radiator.

Thermostat: A thermostat is used to open the valves to allow the coolant to circulate into the radiator.

Heater Core: The heater core is used to heat the passenger compartment in your Chevrolet. It uses hot coolant as the source of warmth it needs to warm your car.

Cooling Fan: The cooling fan is located in front of the radiator and it helps to dissipate heat by blowing cold air over the radiator fins.

Radiator Cap: The cap closes the radiator to keep the coolant inside and helps to create the right amount of pressure in the system. Caps also have a pressure release valve built into them in case the pressure gets too high and needs to be released.

You should have engine cooling system service work done to do things like pressure test the system, check for leaks, make sure the hoses are in good shape, and to test the system to make sure all the parts are functioning properly.
